About Ireland

The cliffs of Moher in IrelandIreland (Eire in Irish) is an isle located in Europe, in the northern Atlantic Ocean, and delimited by the San Giorgio canal, the Ireland sea and the North canal. The isle is politically divided in: Republic of Ireland (simply called Ireland) and North Ireland (formed by six of the nine Ulster's counties, with Belfast as principle city). The North Ireland belongs to United Kingdom, while the Republic of Ireland is an independent State since 1922. It is divided into four provinces (Leinster, Ulster, Munster and Connaught), with a strong cultural and lisnguistic cohesion.

Ireland is a country of saints and giants, myths and legends, homeland of extraordinary writers, overwhelming music and warm people. Here Guinness beer was born and this is the land of fairies and elfs, a country where history peeps out everywhere. In fact, to know Ireland mainly means to discover its heroic and exciting past. Everywhere in the island you will find monuments, castles and footprints of the ancient exciting centuries full of bloody battles, that allow history and legend to mix in a fascinating way.

The unique and varied Irish landscape, is able to cover all kind of tastes. There are so many miracles of nature to see and visit there: from the strange lunar landscape of the Giant's Causeway - in the county of Antrim - to the Cliffs of Moher - the unique sea cliffs that contribute to make Ireland famous all over the world - the sandy beaches along the Cork and Kerry coast, the quiet and relaxing Slieve Blooms in the county of Laois and the strange geological wonder called Ring of Gullion in the county of Armagh. Amazing, wonderful places that, near to the ancient monuments and castles, encourage the birth of many myths and legends.

Music is another main feature of this fabulous country. Music is everywhere in Ireland and it is part of the isle's soul, it is a cultural phenomenon, simply a social fact here. In Ireland you will find any kind of musical festival, from the most typical - called "fleadh" - to the most modern ones - such as the "Oxegen Festival" and the "Tennents Vital Belfast" - vibriant events of the Irish summer. Music is not just a local phenomenon, considering that the fame of some Irish musical panorama's protagonists is well known and appreciated all over the world today (just think about U2, The Corrs and Enya).
In every place, music often melts into literature, highlighting talents of the past like James Joyce, Oliver Goldsmith, Samuel Backett and Oscar Wilde and giving life today, to many literary tourist attractions and tours.

Nowadays, Ireland is among the richest, most developed and peaceful countries on earth, it boasts the highest quality of life in the world and have high rankings for its education system, political freedom, civil rights, press and economic freedom.

Moreover, Ireland is very easy to reach. It is served by four international airports - Dublin, Shannon, Cork and Knock - connected to several cities in the US, Canada, the UK and continental Europe.
