Milan is the capital of the region Lombardy in the north of Italy. It is situated central to other interesting cities like Pavia, Verona, Brescia etc. and to the lakes. Lombardy has the most extensive waterway system in all of Italy with its ten flowing rivers and many streams. To get around to all those places there are train stations. The main station is Stazione Centrale which is a huge buildung and a monument. To arrive by plane there are three options: The closest airport is Linate which is mainly a national airport, but also has some international flights to main cities. The most important airport is Malpensa which is about 50 minutes by bus. There is the airport close to Bergamo which is called Orio al Serio and it also takes about an hour to Milan.
Milan has many hotels in all price categories and there are two hostels. You need to book hotels and hostels ahead, because itis always busy and when the fairs take place it is almost impossible to get a room. You can reach hotels or a city easily by using the public transport. You can enjoy the evenings with having an aperitivo which means you have a drink and eat for free or you try the Milanese cuisine with its variety of risotto.
